It’s common among gospel artistes to have managers who keep tracks of their gigs, pick calls, schedule meetings etc. In view of this popular Nigerian singer, Frank Edwards have advised fastrising artistes not to employ a manager at the outset of their career.
Edwards in a post on his Facebook page, advised upcoming artistes not to become unreachable by hiring a manager at the outset of their music career.
Instead he noted that artistes who are still growing should build relationships with people (potential clients) and build their brand (what can be managed) before hiring a manager.
According to Frank Edwards, it is not ideal for fastrising artistes to hire a manager at the start, as it can serve as a barrier to build relationships.
He added that when he started his music career, he spent three years building quality relationships before he eventually hired his former manager, Ezzee T.
His words,
“Dear upcoming don’t start by being unreachable or hiring a manager.
Build relationships. Have what can be managed before employing a manager or assistant.
If not you will build a wall that will prevent you from building relationships.
I did 3 years building relationships all by myself before handling my phone over and allowing former manager, Ezzee T who started with me as an assistant to join me. Because the calls became too much.
My little advise to upcoming my first Record Label was Loveworld Records and then Rocktown which I’m the owner till date .. not everyone will have the opportunity of being part of a label . So learn how to manage yourself first!Do not employ a manager as you are just starting!”.
