Wife has sweet reason to always take a bite out of husband’s sandwich
A Texas woman has devised a unique way of displaying affection for her husband — by making him a sandwich and then taking a bite of it. She described the peculiar tradition in a moving Facebook post, which has racked up more than 95,000 shares.
“Clifford and I have been married almost 41 years and I have made his lunch every working day since Day 1,” wrote Leonard resident Tracy Howell in a Dec. 1 post.
She continued, “On occasion I would join him on the job site and have lunch with him. He made the comment once that lunch tasted better when you share it with someone you love.”
Clifford’s words apparently made quite the impression, as soon after, while fixing his meal one day, the doting wife decided to take a bite.
After returning home (in the days before cellphones), he commented that someone had munched part of his sandwich, per the post.
Howell’s explanation: “I told him that since I couldn’t join him for lunch, I took a bite so he knew I was joining him.”
Fortunately, it appears that her romantic sandwich-skimming was well-received.
“I continue to do this frequently (unless it’s tuna or pimento cheese),” wrote Howell, “and he still says, ‘Saw you joined me for lunch today and it sure was good.’”
Naturally, some might balk at the idea of their soulmate eating their lunch for them. But the gesture has received an overwhelmingly positive reception on social media.
“That is the most beautiful thing I have ever heard!!” gushed one newfound fan.
Another commented, “Happy Anniversary to two wonderful people! Love that sweet tradition!”
Howell was “speechless” at the response.
“I had no idea this post would get so much attention!” she wrote in the comments section.
