Cops dressed as Santa and elf nab suspected car thieves

You better watch out…

Two undercover police officers dressed as Santa Claus and his elf stopped would-be carjackers in California — thanks in part to St. Nick tackling one of the suspects.

Riverside police said the cops were part of an operation dubbed “Santa’s Intervention” to curb retail theft during the holiday season.

On Thursday, they spotted three men allegedly trying to steal a white Honda CR-V in a parking lot of a Canyon Springs shopping center.

While one of the suspects managed to flee the scene, the other two tried to run away.

“When I looked over my shoulder I saw Santa running by me going after the second subject,” Det. Paul Miranda told NBC Los Angeles.

Footage showed the officer dressed as Santa Claus slamming the second suspect to the ground, while the officer in the elf costume arrested a third suspect at gunpoint.

“Get him, Santa,” said a person who filmed the seasonal crime scene.

One of the two suspects detained was later released, while the other was arrested for possession of illegal drugs and resisting arrest, police said.

The suspect who sped away has been identified and is wanted for car theft, police said.
