20-year-old suspected in fatal stabbing of Georgia toddler

A toddler died in a stabbing just outside Atlanta — and a woman believed to be the child’s mother is a suspect in the attack, according to a new report.

Police were called to a home in the Cherokee County suburb of Canton on Tuesday afternoon and found a 13-month-old baby girl and a 20-year-old woman, Chloe Alexis Driver, with stab wounds, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

The child, who has not been named, was taken to a local hospital, where she later died. Driver was taken to another nearby hospital.

Police believe Driver is the child’s mother, but are awaiting DNA results, according to the paper.

Driver has been named as a suspect in the attack, but her role in the incident was not immediately clear, the AJC reported. Four others who were also in the home at the time are being questioned by police.

Driver, who was still in the hospital as of Saturday afternoon, is originally from Knoxville, Tennessee, and traveled frequently with the baby girl, police said. They were visiting friends in the Atlanta area when the toddler was attacked.

“They recently spent time in Florida, Rhode Island, Tennessee and North Carolina,” Canton police spokesman Pacer Cordry said, adding they were visiting friends when the child was killed.
